Writing Gets Easier!
I started writing in 2014. I completed rough drafts of three books and published my debut in 2022.
Interests took a backseat during university and afterward so when I started writing, I was rusty. I had strengths, but ideas flowed slowly, and I was sure that I would not be able to come up with more ideas than my original series.
I've left that naïveté behind now. I've learned my writing style and a few tricks to make things easier along the way.
Professional writing development is about practice. I had the most insight on this when I was working on my third book. Defiant Dominion wasn't where it needed to be, and I had to change my approach on the story and write revisions. To my surprise, I was able to finish the revisions in about a month. I think it was the first time I realized that I was becoming more comfortable in my craft.
Then I went on to write another manuscript, which took about six months with pauses to work on Defiant Dominion.
Ideas flow now, and I have a lot more swirling in my head. At times, I force myself to work but it's part of the process, and then I generate more ideas and can't get the words down fast enough.
I have several goals as a writer I would like to achieve, and I am excited to see what my brain comes up with!
